In every broadband technology that has been introduced over the past 25 years (cable, DSL, satellite, fiber, and wireless) we have played an integral part in providing services for millions of consumers.
Executive Team
J. Barclay Knapp, Chief Executive Officer
J. Barclay Knapp is the CEO, Chairman and Founder of Clearband. He is also the co-founder and former President and of NTL, Inc. (re-named Virgin Media Inc.), and is also the co-founder and former CEO of Cellular Communications, Inc., Cellular Communications International, Inc., Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, Inc., and CoreComm Limited.
In 1993, Mr. Knapp formed International CableTel, which later became NTL Incorporated, in order to acquire cable franchises in the United Kingdom in Scotland, Wales, and suburban London. This company quickly revolutionized the marketing of bundled cable TV and telephone services, and today is the largest cable and broadband provider in the UK. Mr. Knapp served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NTL until 2003.
Mr. Knapp co-founded Cellular Communications, Inc. in 1983, serving first as CFO and later as President and COO. CCI, the first cellular company in the U.S. to go public, became one of the largest independent cellular system operators in the US, growing from start-up to over 1.25 million customers by the time of its sale to Airtouch in 1996 for $2.5 billion. He also co-founded Cellular Communications International, Inc., which was sold to Olivetti SpA and Mannesmann AG for $1.7 billion in 1999, and Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, Inc., which was sold to SBC Communications Inc. for approximately $800 million in 1999.
Mr. Knapp received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. He has served as a member of the board of trustees of The John Hopkins University, and is now a Senior Fellow in the Center for Financial Economics at The Johns Hopkins University.
Chris Skudder, Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Skudder is President and COO of Clearband. He has 17 years of telecommunications experience, and another 20 years in other high growth technology-based service businesses.
Mr. Skudder served as Group Managing Director (COO) of NTL’s Consumer Division, contributing half of NTL’s revenue. He led the division’s growth organically and by acquisition to over 2 million customers. He led the operating team which won First Place J. D. Power service awards for Best Multi-channel TV and Best Telephone providers, and achieved industry leading penetration and churn with innovative early bundled marketing of phone, Internet, and pay TV service. Mr. Skudder led the division through the integration of 4 acquisitions valued at over $2 billion, tripling NTL’s subscriber base in 3 years.
Prior to NTL, Mr. Skudder served as Sr. Vice President of Operations in Cellular Communications, Inc. (Cellular One) during the company’s growth to 1.25 million customers. Prior to that, Mr. Skudder headed catalog sales and service for Victoria’s Secret and Talbot’s.
Mr. Skudder earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Williams College in Massachusetts.
Al Schneider, Senior Vice President
Al Schneider is Senior Vice President of Clearband. With over 20 years of continuous experience in the telecommunications industry and having served as an executive officer and consultant to several communications firms which include: Cellular One of Canton, CellularOne of Youngstown, Cellular Communications, Inc., Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, McCaw Cellular, ATT Wireless, CoreComm, NewPar, Phoenix TelNet, LLC and others.
Mr. Schneider holds a BA degree from the University of Dayton and JD degree from Cleveland State University. In addition, Mr. Schneider is a licensed Attorney in the State of Ohio
Tom Della Rocco, Senior Vice President of Network Operations
Mr. Della Rocco is Senior Vice President of Network Operations and CTO. He is responsible for planning, developing, and operating all aspects of Clearband’s network (facilities, IP, and RF divisions). In addition, he oversees our network and equipment vendor relationships.
Prior to joining Clearband, Mr. Della Rocco served as CTO of CoreComm, one of the largest integrated communications providers in the country. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of NTL, directly responsible for building one the UK’s largest broadband networks, with over 1.1 million homes passed. Earlier, he served as Vice President of Network Engineering for Cellular Communications Inc. (Cellular One).
Mr. Della Rocco earned an AS in Mechanical Engineering, his BS in Operations and Management, and his MS in Telecommunications.
Alex A. Khorram, Vice President of Business Development
Alex Khorram is Vice President of Business Development. He has over a decade of telecom, technology and finance related experience, with a focus on marketing, operations, and mergers and acquisitions. He is responsible for new business opportunities, product development, marketing, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Clearband, Mr. Khorram was a Principal in the private equity firm of GPX Enterprises, SVP of Corporate Development for ATX Communications Inc., an officer of ATX-CoreComm, Inc., and a director of the Association of the Communications Companies of America. His responsibilities spanned across various operational, financial, and strategic initiatives.
Mr. Khorram earned an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MBA from London Business School. He also earned a BA in Political Science from Gettysburg College.
Vincent Badalamenti, Vice President and Controller
Vincent Badalamenti is Vice President and Controller of Clearband. Prior to joining Clearband, he held various senior management positions with distribution, advertising, and manufacturing companies. Mr. Badalamenti was also an audit manager at Laventhol and Horwath, and was responsible for various assignments, spanning several industries in the firm’s audit department.
Mr. Badalamenti holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Baruch College, is a certified public accountant, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
